Why The Rider-Waite Tarot
In 1909, artist Pamela Colman Smith and mystic A.E. Waite created what became the most influential tarot deck of the modern era — the first to fully illustrate every card, not only the court cards, as a scene rather than a repeated suit symbol. That one choice is why nearly every tarot deck since has learned from this one first. It's increasingly called the Rider-Waite-Smith deck today, in overdue credit to Smith's artistry.
Structurally, it holds 78 cards: 22 Major Arcana mapping the big, archetypal turning points of a life, and 56 Minor Arcana reflecting the day-to-day texture of getting there. Your reading draws from both.
This is why it goes deeper than a single card pulled for a nice sentiment. The 56 hold a real structure — Cups for what you're feeling, Swords for what you're thinking, Pentacles for the physical and material, Wands for the will that moves you between them. The mental, emotional, and physical building blocks this reading maps aren't a metaphor. They're built into the deck itself.
